Hello there! My name is Rachon and I'm an interdisciplinary designer that likes telling stories and making things move using 2D and 3D animation. With an Animation BFA from DePaul University and 1 year of experience, I am passionate and excited to learn and grow with my peers and create work that I am proud of. I invite you to look at some of the stuff I've worked on and reach out if you want to work together or just want to chat!

My Journey:

Art has always been a part of my life. Coming from very creative parents, I was always encouraged to build and create. When I started my journey, I loved to draw cars and any superhero I liked at the time (99.9% of the time it was Spider-Man). Drawing is still an activity I love to do but as I got older I was more into technology and how I could use it to make my art. I started doing photography and really got a solid foundation of composition and design but it wasn't until I found a small community online that used Adobe After Effects to create stunning motion graphics that I was instantly hooked. I hopped on a school computer that had AE and never looked back. From passion and independent learning, I got to bridge my love for tech with my love for design. In my adult years, I really got to spread my wings and develop my craft at DePaul University with the help of peers and amazing professors. Now as a graduate, I work with clients developing ideas that are important to them, and get to do what I love every day. I always strive to be a person who is learning and works to immerse myself in the things I love so I can be a more well-rounded person and designer.

A little bit about color:

When I am creating, the biggest question I ask myself is "How can I use more color?". I always try to ask myself this when I am making something new because color can compartmentalize objects, dictate the use of something at the viewer's first glance, and most important of all, make the viewer feel something from experiencing the work. This always fascinated me and lead me to start thinking about design differently. My passion for color theory and design sparked from a lot of the media I consumed as a kid. My favorite movie AKIRA directed by Katsuhiro Otomo spun me down the rabbit hole of how the calculated use of color drives design forward. The use of light and color really inspires me and I try to incorporate those techniques when I light my scenes. I always try to use color to ground my work and make it look and feel tangible and real. When doing abstract work, I like to create a dream-like environment and color plays a huge part in making that environment feel real while playing with elements that are not. Color is an endless journey and as trends change so will colors within the design space but learning more about the world around me and experimenting with new ideas widens my palette.
